The luxurious Lata Tussar Silk Scarf is measures 22" X 80" and is block printed with natural dyes. Perfect for any occasion.

Tussar silk comes from rural Northeastern India. It is also known as "Wild Silk" because it does not come from silk worms that are cultivated in mulberry bushes. In Sanskrit it is called "Kosa". Tussar silk worms live and spin their cocoons in the wild forest regions of Northeastern India. The texture of this silk is very different than cultivated silk. It breathes very well, it is extremely durable and gets softer with years of use.

The local tribal women of this region are skilled in collecting these cocoons and spinning silk out of them. The natural golden hue of this silk has been coveted for centuries. The weavers of this region are able to produce about 3 1/2 yards of this silk in 3 days and it is the main source of income for these women.

Your choice to buy this piece of textile helps support a time honored tradition of natural fiber textile weaving.

Care: Tussar silk can be hand washed separately in cold water with very mild detergent and line dried or dry cleaned. Avoid storing it is plastic bag because silk is a natural fiber and it needs to breathe.
