Ancient scriptures of India have given us detailed instructions on all aspects of a Yogic life. This includes how to sit, and what to sit on for meditation and worship. The 'seat' recommended for modern times is a mat made of wool and/or silk, because these materials retain positive vibrations and repel disturbing vibrations. In India, this seat is called an "ASANA" because the yogis would sit on it in padmasana (lotus posture). With daily use, your Asana will retain meditative vibrations and help you to go deeper into meditation each time you sit on it to meditate.
Those who prefer to sit on chairs can still have a wool mat asana in front of the altar or to have under the feet. Use our Supreme Swan Silk and Wool Meditation Blanket made especially for chair use.
Your Asana is usually kept in your sacred space and can be taken to other gatherings such as satsangas, kirtans, pujas. It is best to use it only for sacred practice, prayer and study so that it will remind you of your meditative and worshipful state of being.
Care & Cleaning
**This Asana is made from natural fibers and will last a lifetime with proper care.
It is recommended that this meditation mat can be shaken or vacuumed with a brushless appliance to avoid snagging the fibers or the fringes. Any spills should be blotted out with water and a soft cloth. Also, a soft bristled toothbrush can be used to remove stubborn spots, but make sure to brush with the grain of the weave. It can also be dry cleaned.
